Richard Russo On That Last Two Percent

Richard Russo On That Last Two Percent. Terrific explanation of what an MFA can do for writers and the importance of writers in community. It seems to me a misconception among beginners is that we are and should be Lone Rangers. Going it alone is damaging (unless, of course, you’re a genius and the writing isn’t as laborious a task as it is for those of us who are less talented and have to really work at it).

And then there’s this: “One of the things that a good writing teacher will do … is help the writer understand who he or she is and what’s coming between that writer and the last two percent.”
